Sail on Sailor Fine Art Prints
Sail on Sailor Fine Art Prints
Created by Rick Griffin in 1975 for the Mustard Seed Faith album “Sail on Sailor”
I had asked Rick to paint a picture of "going from darkness into light." The original title of the album was to be called, "Lighter Side Of Darkness. " Chuck Smith didn't like the title so we changed it to "Sail On Sailor." As Lewis had written that song for the album.
Rick originally painted a ship which looked like a pirate's ship and it just wasn't right. Chuck Smith was getting impatient waiting for the artwork and told me to get another artist to do the cover. I told Rick this and he said, "Let me try to do this one more time." He finished it in seven days and we were all blown away at the artwork. Of course when we got the "Album slicks" back, he was bummed that the colors were nowhere as vivid. But we had to get the album out and most people didn't realize how bright and beautiful the original painting was. - Mustard Seed Faith
