In 1974, Griffin decided to create a stock certificate by doing a redesign of one of his old family dog posters, FD 69, which he superimposes over a very detailed old-fashioned stock certificate, like the kind that companies used to sell. Done in multiple shades of blue, the certificate has an intricate border that really adds to the official feel of the piece. Intricate and very pretty. FD 69 is the Independance poster and with its Eagle and Shield design, it really works in this repurposed context. Brilliant stuff. In fact, he may have been extremely prescient in creating this piece. It really is like a stock certificate: it came into being at a certain value, which, like all of Griffin's work, has steadily risen over time, thus adding value for the certificate holder.
